Wow another week has passed! Hope this past week was a good one for everybody.

Felt - Felt (1971)
Superb turn of the decade rock from Alabama USA. Melodic Floyd-like progressive flourishes but with blistering acid guitar, soulful vocals and shimmering keyboards. Crashing riffs and peaceful waves abound. I was hooked from the opening bars of the beautiful "Look At The Sun" and this thing held my attention until the very end. How can somebody make an album this good and just disappear? Were they chewed up by a heartless music industry, was there a personal tragedy, or, artistic vision realized, did they just move on?

German Oak - German Oak (1972)
Recorded in a WWII Air-Raid Shelter in order to get a better feeling of what it must have been like to have been a German soldier during the European Invasion of 1944, this brilliant instrumental psychedelic recording by a five man group from Dusseldorf tries to capture in sound what it must have been like. From the liner notes: "As we played down there in the old bunker, suddenly a strange atmosphere began to work. The ghosts of the past whispered. There has been fear, desperation - but also hope. Maybe you will feel such impressions too, by listening carefully". This is truly a great album!

Bitrate 320 w/scans Part 1 Part 2

Dom - Edge Of Time (1970)
Supposedly recorded after a two-day acid trip, Dom's only album is a real voyage into space. This is one of those great albums that is difficult to describe. It is a hypnotic and ecstatic blend of space rock, eccentric hippie folk and Eastern mantra, constructed of intricate suites dripping with lysergic inspiration and sublime revelation. If you are going to burn this, consider leaving off track 9. This "bonus track" is from 1998 and doesn't fit in at all with the rest of the material.

Download

Bang - Bang (1971)
OK here's some good old-fashioned hard rock. Bang was from Pennsylvania USA and obviously loved their Black Sabbath albums. Also their Cream, Hendrix and Zeppelin records. I don't know too much about these guys but I know one thing for sure - this album kicks ass!! If you like vintage rock you need this.

Download

Pesky Gee - Exclamation Mark (1969)
Released in 1969, British group Pesky Gee's only album is a jazzy, heavy progressive rock album with loads of keyboards and female vocals. There's a lengthy version of Donovan's "Season Of the Witch" as well as a covers of "Piece Of My Heart" "Dharma for One" and "Born To Be Wild". After this album they changed their name to Black Widow!

Download

Various Artists - Rig Rock Juke Box (1992)

Here's my Garage Sale/Thrift Store/Bargain Bin Find Of The Week. This is a compilation of artists appearing on the "Diesel Only" record label. I also got a companion to this, "Rig Rock Truck Stop". I actually really like some of this stuff, especially tracks by Gwil Owens, The Blue Chieftains and Go To Blazes. This is bar-band country music, filtered maybe through a punk rock sensibility.

Download

OK that's all folks.

'Wow another week has passed! Hope this past week was a good one for everybody.'

Listening to your selections has become a definite highlight of each week. As always, I look forward to see what you have pulled out this time. Especially interesting is the 'Bang', as I know that somewhere I have this album but had long forgotten about them, it will be fun to jog the ol' memory (because trust me, thats the only 'jogging I'll be doing ;-)

Felt was formed in Alabama in the late '60s around the talents of Myke Jackson (guitars), Mike Neel (drums), Tommy Gilstrap (bass), Stan Lee (guitars), and Allan Dalrymple (keyboards). The band's self-titled album, released on the small Nasco label in 1971, contains half-a-dozen original songs written for the most part by Jackson. The mostly blues-styled songs on this album are full of great guitar work and contain fine Beatles-esque harmony vocals. While most of this album has a blues feeling to it, some of the songs hint of progressive rock with swirling keyboards, intense drumming, and blistering guitar solos. The album has recently been discovered for its musical excellence and has become a very rare collectors' item. Guitarist Lee would later go on to become a member of punk band the Dickies in the late '70s. This welcome re-release by Akarma Records features a reproduction of the original foldout album graphics in the mini-LP-styled Akarmapack. (allmusic.com)

Thanks! Have all thge Black Widow 70's releases, but didn't know about this one.

A little more info from: http://www.blackwidow.org.uk/

Pesky Gee! the name alone can conjure up any number of ideas; that is, until you hear this album. When you do, there will be no doubt in your mind, that Pesky Gee! is a new sound. It is a new group, too, but the sound is the most important thing. Its impact and originality will stay with you as no other sound has done for a long time.

For eighteen months, Pesky Gee! have been playing together in their home town of Leicester, perfecting their musical talents, and creating their own sound.

The people who make this sound are nineteen year old Clive Jones on saxophone; twenty year old Jimmy Gannon on guitar; Jess Taylor also twenty, on organ; twenty five year old bass guitarist Bob Bond and twenty two year old drummer Clive Box. The vocals are handled by nineteen year old Kay Garret and twenty two year old Kip Trevor, who have an individuality few vocalists have produced in many a day. They have an initial impact that will stun and attract you.

Jim Gannon - Guitar
Jess "Zoot" Taylor - Organ
Kip Trevor - Vocalist
Clive Jones - Saxophone
Bob Bond - Bass guitar
Clive Box - Drums & percussion
Kay Garret - Vocalist

Bang reformed few years ago and has a web site. Their story is quite long, so I'll just post a teaser and you can read the rest on their web site. It's a classic music industry soap opera.

"How we went from a basement, to opening a Rod Stewart / Faces / Deep Purple concert, to 4 albums on "Capitol Records", to #1 in Hong Kong, to our own plane, to today, together, starting over."

http://www.bangmusic.com/multimedia/RED%20BANG%20site/BANG/story.htm

Bang now sells downloads of their (7) releases on their web site. I've got 5 Bang releases on vinyl and a few years ago they let you download mp3's of ALL of their albums for free (for a limited time as a promo), which I did. But I lost them in a hard drive crash :(((. Ah, the modern world.

Thank you for all the nice stuff here. I like your taste. I'm looking for the 60's Danish version of Cream - "Young Flowers". I heard a couple of their tracks and they're great! I'm also looking for the German band Armaggedon (not the British Armageddon).

Thanks!

german oak is fantastic!
but dont you think that "swastica rising" has a problem at 4:55 until the end of track? Or is my fault?

9:05 AM, November 12, 2005
Blogger GarColga said...

OK I'm sorry it's a glitch in ripping. The track ends abruptly at 4:55, so just trim off the blips after that.

I checked the packaging, I downloaded the track from another source, and a couple on-line sources for the correct length of the track.

Thanks so much for the Felt.
The scat-singing-along-with-the-guitar reminded me of Rory Gallagher and Alvin Lee. Too bad it's such a short album. I could have used a little more.

I'm assuming this is a vinyl rip. AMG shows:

1971 LP Nasco 9006
2005 LP Akarma 99127

No previous CD release. THAT makes it a rarity.

The Tom Guido who posted here. Is this the Tom Guido who was a former Marine on Oki with me in the 70s? If so visit my website at http://www.ipa.net/~tr107918 and see some pics of yourself and others of that day and time. Tom R.

'Format error' with 'Edge of Time' - Dom download any ideas why?

I was pointed to this site via ILM (I Love Music) and have fallen in love with it. The bredth of music here as wonderful and is helping me fill in some gaps with my Krautrock collection. All the best.
